Shortlist announced for Grierson 2015: The British Documentary Awards

Grierson Awards 2015Two broadcasters, the BBC and Channel 4 have excelled in the amount of documentaries up for awards, both in the Best Documentary on a Contemporary Theme – Domestic category as well as the other sections, such as Best Documentary on Current Affairs and Best Arts Documentary.

In the popular category Best Documentary on a Contemporary Theme – International, established filmmakers such as Kim Longinotto, Laura Poitras and Nick Broomfield have won nominations with Dreamcatcher, Citizenfour and Tales of a Grim Sleeper respectively.

The Bertha DocHouse Best Cinema Documentary nominations went to Louise Osmond for Dark Horse; Dreamcatcher by Kim Longinotto; Life Itself by Steve James; Maidan by Sergei Loznitsa; Mercy Mercy by Katrine W. Kjaer; Jesse Moss for The Overnighters; Tales of the Grim Sleeper by Nick Broomfield and Virunga by Orlando von Einsiedel.

The final nominations will be announced on 15 September prior to the star-studded award ceremony and party at The Mermaid, in London on 2 November.
