Doc Heads Film of the Week: King of Laughter

Doc HeadsNothing like the animated emotional insight we saw last Wednesday, this week Doc Heads’ film of the week is the very light hearted King of Laughter.

Like every week, Doc Heads have picked out a short film for you to enjoy, share and help promote. This week they’ve selected King of Laughter – 3 Minute Wonder. A rather contagious documentary.

It’s really a case of “if this doesn’t get a smile on your face then what will?”

Nick Hillel of Yeast Culture, who made the documentary for Channel 4, describes it as “introducing Ethiopian laughter king, Belachew Girma, on his journey to cheer up England’s ‘unhappiest’ town” – and yes, that’s essentially what we see.

Fred Grace, one of the founders of Doc Heads, says he’s chosen the film for the solely reason that it makes people happy. “In amongst the many documentaries that are about the darker side of human nature, sometimes you get a film that exists to just make us happy. King of Laughter explores the positive power of joy and the universal language of laughter. Give this film three minutes of your time and it will make you feel good.”

Decide for yourselves:

Doc Heads host a bi-monthly networking night for documentarians and lovers of the genre on Brick Lane, London. Their next meet up will take place on Thursday 28 February. More information about the organisation and their events can be found here.
